This is one of the largest and most diverse phylums forming an animal kingdom called arthropoda. Arthropoda is the group that includes insects, crustaceans, arachnids, and many more. Arthropods make up approximately 80% of the recognized animal species in the world.

Deuterostomes: 

Refers to a separate evolutionary lineage where the blastopore develops into the anus, and the mouth arises from a secondary opening. Deuterostomes have led to a wide variety of remarkable animals, including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals, such as humans.

Characteristics of Protostomes and Deuterostomes 

Protostomes: Developmental Pattern : 

The blastopore in the protostome becomes the mouth while the anus develops later. 

Cleavage Pattern : 

The Protostomes undergo spiral and determinate cleavage in which the cell fate is already determined at an early stage of their development. 

Deuterostomes: 

Developmental Pattern : In Deuterostomes, the outcome of the blastopore becomes the anus and the mouth develops later. 

Cleavage Pattern : 

The Deuterostomes usually undergo radial and indeterminate cleavage wherein the cell fate is determined at a later stage.
