These thin, elastic vessels are located near the skin’s surface and carry deoxygenated blood from the body back to the heart, with the exception of the umbilical and pulmonary veins, which transport oxygenated blood.

Arteries: Also thin and elastic, arteries branch into smaller capillaries and transport oxygenated blood from the heart to the rest of the body, except the pulmonary artery, which carries deoxygenated blood to the lungs.

  1. Blood: Blood is a fluid connective tissue involved in transporting oxygen, carbon dioxide, nutrients, and waste products. It is made up of plasma, white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets.
